Collaborative mirrors a shared team space: @-mentions, colleague messages, and the agent replying inside a group conversation — matching how that platform handles a multi-person channel.

Standard is a simple 1:1 chat between you and the agent — no mentions, no collaborators — matching how that platform's standalone assistant works.

For some providers this is more than a content change: the UI itself is genuinely different between the two. Gemini switches to its standalone assistant chrome instead of Google Chat, and Databricks Genie switches from its native Genie Space to being accessed via a Teams connector. The provider list updates automatically to only show what actually exists for the selected variant.
